Circa Mid 19th Century. … Read more This Really is a Great and Unique Looking Authentic Antique American Country Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock. Circa Mid 19th Century. With Side Handles - "Ears". It has a Classic Early American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Interior is Done in a Dark Caramel Brown Color. The Front has a Interesting Cobalt Blue Hand Decorated Design that Includes the Initials W C T. It has No Maker or Storage Capacity Marks but it is Rendered in the 1 1/2 Gallon Size. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Crocks were Commonly Used to Store a Variety Food and Other Items. It is in Excellent All Original Condition, No Cracks - No Chips - No Repairs - Displays Beautifully. It is Strong - Sound & Perfectly Usable.
It Does Have a Very Interesting Vast Assortment of Exterior and Interior Surface Glaze Imperfections - Spots - Bumps Etc. Giving it a Wonderfully Unique Look - All of Which Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common.
