Chinese porcelain Ru Yao tripod censer with the typical, duck egg blue, glazed exterior and interior, all covered with very … Read more Chinese porcelain Ru Yao tripod censer with the typical, duck egg blue, glazed exterior and interior, all covered with very fine, small pattern, iron wire craquelure. The censer is finely and smoothly shaped with a perforated lid and has a pair of Tianlu flanking the neck. The rims of the lid and the censer are unglazed. The censer sits on three, stylized, beast head feet. A finely carved, ten character mark in Zhuanshu script is incised to the base. Circa Republic of china era, no later than mid-century.

Tianlu: (天祿; tiānlù; t'ien-lu): The male Pixiu of the species, in charge of wealth. It is said to go out into the world to search for gold and other forms of wealth. Displaying Tiānlù at home or in the office is said to prevent wealth from flowing away.

Pixiu crave the smell of gold and silver and like to bring their masters money in their mouth. Statues of this creature are often used to attract wealth in feng shui. See less
