Splendid and very heavy Napoleon III table clock made of black marble topped with a patinated bronze that represents a philosopher from the Ancient World with a book on his lap.

The structure of the clock is robust, it is composed of a large stepped body or base of black marble outlined with gilt bronze. Above, the figure of the thinker appears on the left and next to him, the clock itself. Paris machinery watch signed inside the case, on the machinery. Also on the white dial is “Graverand, Paris” and the street where this watch shop was located. Simple hands pointing to Roman numerals. At the top of its box, gilded bronze ornaments: books and olive leaves. In the rightmost area, likewise, more symbolic elements that allude to the importance of the character, rolled papyri, also in gilded bronze. It should be noted that this wonderful clock is supported by four legs, the ones at the front being very elaborate, an animal claw that in its upper part takes on the shape of a rockery.
