Crafted in Portugal circa 1760, the tall chair is constructed of solid walnut and features a deep, warm patina that highlights its sculptural details and historic character.

The imposing high back features a distinctive arched crest flanked by turned walnut posts topped with decorative brass finials. The original embossed leather upholstery is decorated with elaborate floral arrangements, scrolling foliage, and intricate geometric borders, creating a richly textured composition. Large, rounded brass nailheads accentuate the contours of the backrest and frame, providing a striking contrast against the dark walnut.

The wide rectangular seat is similarly upholstered in embossed leather, featuring a decorative central medallion and traditional foliate motifs. The chair stands on four turned legs connected by side and rear stretchers for stability. The particularly decorative front stretcher is embellished with a finely carved central shell motif framed by graceful C-scrolls, reflecting the craftsmanship of Portuguese furnituremakers of the period.
