This really is an Exceptionally Nice Looking Antique American Country Primitive Stoneware Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century. Small Approx. 1 Gallon Size. The Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior is Artistically Hand Decorated with a Wonderful Cobalt - Navy Blue Stylized Double Flower Design. It Has No Maker Mark. Origin Possibly Maryland & Pennsylvania ?. It Also has a Number 1 Denoting its 1 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. These Desirable Smaller Size Jugs were Commonly Used to Store a Variety of Liquids - Spirits - Liquor - Ciders - Vinegar - Spring Water Etc. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most Of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. It is in Excellent Original Condition with No Damage - No Cracks - No Repairs - Displays Beautifully. It has a Surface Chip - "Stone Ping" - at the Lower Back Side that Upon Examination is Glazed Over Confirming that it Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. This can Best Be Seen in the Last - 12th Photograph in my Listing. Surface Chips and An Assortment of Other Cosmetic Factory Imperfections are Quite Common as These Types of Stoneware Items were Fired in Multiple Batches in Large Size Kilns.
It Measures 11 3/4 inches Tall x 7 1/2 inches Wide - Long.
