It is a 1907 French Art Nouveau antique chromolithograph that features baskets with spring or summer flowers and visiting birds. It originally came from "Le Journal de la Decoration", an unbound portfolio of decorative plates that were inspirational designs for tapestries, ceramics, leatherworks, etc. The chromolithograph is signed and dated by the artist, Hugo Steiner Prag who was born in Prague. He was an artist, illustrator, and teacher who is best known for his illustrations for The Golem, an extraordinary book of stories about strange underworld characters set in the Jewish Ghetto of Prague which later became a movie of Jewish folklore. Steiner-Prag eventually escaped the Nazis and moved to the United States where he died in 1945. In this earlier illustrated work, he used strong vivid pink and rose colors set against dark midnight blue and black backgrounds to showcase flowers in full bloom. This image will delight you and your room decor just as it delights its visiting birds. It is in rare horizontal format measuring 13.5 x 9.5 inches. See less
