This small Chinese … Read more This antique Chinese bowl with intricate motifs was made from celadon porcelain during the Song dynasty: 960–1279. This small Chinese circular bowl adopts a elegant almost conic shape raised on a circular base. The piece displays a pale celadon glaze, except for its lip, which lets the porcelain come through. The inner surface of the bowl is adorned with intricate floral scroll motifs molded in low relief and covered with celadon glaze. The delicacy of these motifs compliment the serene shape and color of the bowl beautifully. The Song dynasty, which lasted over 300 years was the first government in history to issue banknotes (paper money) nationally, which was quite a task as the dynasty ruled much of what is the eastern half of modern China.
