This refined Japanese porcelain charger originates from Arita, the historic center of Japan’s blue-and-white ceramic tradition. Executed in crisp underglaze cobalt, the plate features concentric floral borders framing a sculpted peony in high relief—a motif associated with prosperity and classical elegance.
The combination of molded relief and finely controlled painted decoration reflects late Showa–early Heisei export production, drawing on centuries-old Arita design vocabulary influenced by Ming-dynasty prototypes. Balanced in scale at 11 inches, this piece functions equally well as a presentation charger, serving plate, or display object. The reverse bears the kiln mark 有田 萬窯 (Arita Man Kiln), confirming Japanese origin. A strong decorative example suited to both traditional and modern interiors.
