Rare & very beautiful Blue Vitrified Opaline Bowl by W.H.B. & J. Richrdson's Glass Co. of England. C 1841-1850. Makers Mark on underside of bowl. The hand applied gold gilt design was called either a Net Design or Diamond-type Design. In my research, I found that this design was used on their blue & green decorative bowls. A vitrified bowl indicates glass with metal oxides fused inside the glass. Opaline allows the light to flow through the glass. It really is astonishing that this beautiful bowl, nearing 200 yrs. of age, is in such perfect condition. This is a real prize for the collector.

The Victoria & Albert Museum awarded the Mfg. the 'Gold Isis Medal from the Royal Society of England' for this type of vitrified glass.
This exquisite bowl is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or repairs.
