Typically, these scales are much larger with iron frames and not all brass as this one. In the time period this scale was in use, banks not only accepted currency, but also bullion, foreign gold coins, and other items made of precious metals. The small size of this scale and its small delicate pans indicates that it was probably used only to weigh gold. This scale is in excellent working condition having been professionally restored in England. It will be shipped disassembled with easy to follow instructions which allow assembly without tools in less than five minutes. See less
