This Royal Vienna-style cabinet plate depicts the myth of Jupiter and Calisto. Jupiter disguises himself as Diana, goddess of the hunt, to seduce the nymph he loves, Calisto. The image is a lithographic transfer with hand-painted embellishments. The overglaze blue shield mark indicates that this plate was not made by the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory. If it were VPM, the shield mark would be underglaze blue. This plate is signed.
This cabinet plate is in very good original condition with wear consistent with age and use. There are no rim chips, but there is slight wear to the gilded cavetto and to the gilded beading.
