Very large antique 19th century Wedgwood black basalt library bust of President George Washington after Jean-Antoine Houdon (French, 1741-1828). Stamped "Wedgwood" on the base and "Washington" to back of neck. Measures 20" tall x 12 3/4" wide x 11" deep. Good condition. A very pleasing model with elegant broad shoulders and wide socle. Good condition - wear consistent with age.
An identical bust in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. On view in the American Wing, Fifth Avenue and on-line. Rare to find such a large example.
