This beautiful bowl was made using a technique known as Fangge. Fangge was produced under the Ming and Qing dynasties as an imitation of the “crackle” celadon from the imperial kilns of the Song era (960-1279). Its characteristic is the pattern of multiple cracks in the glaze. The bowl is a particularly fine and beautiful example of this technique, with the desired characteristic crazing very much in evidence, which would have been referred to as “crackle” glaze. The best colour representation is the photograph looking down into the bowl.
***(For some reason the camera is picking up a beige tone in the main photo which is not the case, and photoshopping has removed some of the colour on the edges of bowl - this is also not the case. The colour is throughout and the piece is in excellent order)
The bowl is exquisitely decorated with swirling leaf/petal motifs under the glaze. It measures 7 inches in diameter by 2.25 inches in height
The bowl is in very good condition, and generally consistent with a dating to the Late 19th/Early 20th. century. A superb example of a very distinctive style of Chinese porcelain, it would make a fine collector’s piece and is authentic.
