This earthenware beauty’s distinctive hue is reminiscent but not identical to Japanese seihakuji which is a classic pale bluish green glaze on white porcelain (hakuji) versus the matte glaze overlay of this cachepot. Beautiful in own right, the cachepot was made some in the 1950s by Camark, a pottery in Camden Arkansas. Camark Pottery incorporated in Camden, Arkansas in 1926 and began producing pottery in 1927 until it was sold in the early 1960s to Mary Daniel. This beauty’s all-over ribbed lotus leaf circular shape with scalloped lip measures 6” x 6” x 3½” W/D/H; interior 5¼” x 5¼” x 3” W/D/H; weight 1 lb. 2 oz.; crafted from clay that was obtained from the Ouachita County area; color is soft and subdued matte bluish green hue. Makers incised mark is on the underside albeit a bit worn from age but the style# for this cachepot is 620. In excellent condition with age appropriate wear that is minimal on the exterior and more pronounced on the interior (see photos 6 & 9). The shape of the cachepot is perfect for succulents (no drainage) or just add snipped fresh flowers at the base for a simple ikebana arrangement.
