Classic Beehive Form … Read more This really is an Exceptionally Nice Looking Antique American Country Primitive Stoneware Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century. Classic Beehive Form - Very Desirable Small 1 Gallon Size. The Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior is Artistically Hand Decorated with a Wonderful Large Cobalt Blue Stylized Flower Sprig. The Front is Embossed With the Well Documented Makers Name - Reads "A.B. WHEELER & CO. BOSTON MASS. These. Smaller Size Jugs were Commonly Used to Store a Variety of Liquids - Spirits - Liquor - Ciders - Vinegar - Spring Water Etc. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Exceptionally Good All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. No Damage - No Repairs. There is Some Slight Color Variation to the Glaze and a Couple Minor Surface Spots - Stains at the Base Area but These are Kiln Glaze Imperfections That would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. These Types of Surface Marks are Quite Common as These Types of Stoneware Items were Fired in Multiple Batches in Large Size Kilns.
