This magnificent Louis XVI period overmantel cock was made by Charles Bertrand in Paris, circa 1790. It is constructed like an architectural monument consisting of two Obelisks on top of Plinths highly decorated in ormolu mounts of Trophies. Suspended in-between the obelisks is the cylinder containing the elaborate clockworks of Charles Bertrand with a porcelain face. On top of it stands a proud figure of Goddess Minerva/Athena holding arrow & shield.
Image number 8 shows his signature etched into the back of the clockworks.
