Vintage Folk Art Blue Painted Adirondack-Style Chair, 1st Quarter 20th Century. This striking, make-do highback chair is naively constructed utilizing humble, repurposed components. The ladder-back is braced with a central, vertical plank. The bentwood arms were originally crafted with rectangular slots and four nail holes, possibly as support for an additional brace or structural element. Comprised fully of wood with nail construction, the polychrome body reveals varying pigments applied over time. Currently presents strong shades of steel sky blue along with dusty robins egg, perfectly faded over time. Either through the maker’s intent or through active use over time, the off-kilter lines of the seat offer an unusual perspective to the piece. A brilliant form of vernacular folk art. Unsigned.
