This really is a Great Looking - Outstanding Example an Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Embossed with a Number 2 Indicating its Two Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Maker "NEW YORK STONEWARE COMPANY in FORT EDWARDS. It is Rendered in a "Beehive" Form and it has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug has a Exceptionally Nice Gracefully and Well Executed Hand Decorated Cobalt Blue Bird with a Berry in its Beak Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc. It is in Excellent Overall Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has No Damage and No Repairs. It has Some Age, Use and Kiln Acquired Glaze Color Variations Etc. These Being Quite Common with These Types of Stoneware Jugs. It has a Few Fine Surface Only - Under the Glaze Hairlines on The Handle Attachment & Spout Areas But These Would Have Had to Occur in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
