Introduced around 1902, Fancy Fantails is an Early American Pattern Glass design distinguished by its unusual molded relief. The exterior of this footed bowl features the pattern's dense, tactile decoration, which becomes particularly apparent across the underside and lower portion of the vessel. The glass rises into a deeply ruffled rim finished with a vivid cranberry-pink frit edge, creating a dramatic contrast with the yellow-green vaseline glass.

Fancy Fantails has an interesting attribution history. The pattern was formerly attributed to Jefferson Glass Company and continues to appear under the Jefferson name in older references and marketplace listings. More recent specialist EAPG research identifies the maker as Northwood, produced at the Northwood Works of the National Glass Company.

The combination of vaseline opalescent glass and cranberry frit is a documented Fancy Fantails treatment. The pronounced ruffling gives the bowl an organic, almost floral silhouette, while the molded pattern provides wonderful texture when viewed from either above or below.

A beautiful example of turn-of-the-century American pressed art glass and an especially appealing piece for collectors of Northwood, EAPG, opalescent glass and antique vaseline glass.
