This really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. It is Not Marked as Such but it is an Approx 1 Gallon Size. It is Rendered in a Classic "Beehive" Form. It has a Salt Glaze Exterior with a Interesting Assortment of Glaze Color Variations. The Front of the Jug has a Very Nice Gracefully and Well Executed Hand Decorated Cobalt - Navy Blue Stylized Sprig Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc. It is in Very Nice Overall Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has a Small Surface Indentation on the Back Lower Right Side Base , a Few Glaze Surface Spots - Imperfections and a Small Contained Crack at the Lower Front Base Area All of Which Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
PLEASE NOTE --- That It has a Small Hole Drilled on the Back Side Lower Area That was Intended to Accommodate a Electric Power Cord for a Table Lamp Base Conversion!
