There is much to read about Continental Sheffield vs Continental Silver and it appears as though Continental Sheffield was the earlier company in New York. This footed shell dish bears the “C S” with rampant lions mark which lends it to the Continental Sheffield Co.
Rococo in style, the clam shell dish is likely intended for candy, but what a wonderful trinket, ring or guest soap dish it makes. The end of the shell is rather ornate as is the handle which forms one of the “feet”.
