This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Food & Liquids Storage Jar - Crock. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Completely Hand Made on a Potters Wheel. It has a Very Nice Uniform Greige Color Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front is Hand Decorated with a Large & Beautiful Deep Cobalt Blue Stylized Flower Design. It Also has Matching Blue Decorated Highlights at the Handles - "Ears". It is Embossed with a Number 2 Denoting its 2 Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed - Signed by the Historically Important and Well Documented Harrisburg PennsylvaniaMaker "COWDEN & WILCOX". Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. Condition Details - It is in Strong, Sound, Perfectly Usable and Displays Well. It Has a Few Very Fine Surface Only Glaze Hairlines ( Not Cracks ). No Chips. It Also has a Few Kiln Glaze Surface Imperfections - Rust Color Spots Here and There All of Which Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. The Coffee Brown Glazed Interior Bottom Area has a a Use Related Glaze Imperfections. These Types of Utilitarian Stoneware Items Were Fired in Large Kilns in Batches with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Acquired Blemishes are Quite Common.
