This is a typical design of the Minoyaki style dating back to mid-17th century, depicting the nature-themed daring design and distinctive bright colors.
Glazed and baked plain ware, painted with indigo color Gosu and overglaze with red, green, yellow and indigo as a top coat. Based on the color red, gives its name, “Akae” (which means red painting).
Koi are becoming a universal symbol of peace all over the world. By the Heian period (794-1185), koi fish were already popular and kept by nobles in Japan.
