For sale is a vintage Chinese Ming-style red lacquered high back southern official's hat armchair (Nanguanmaoyi 南官帽椅), with S-shaped back … Read more For sale is a vintage Chinese Ming-style red lacquered high back southern official's hat armchair (Nanguanmaoyi 南官帽椅), with S-shaped back splat decorated with carved peony motif, each armrest on either side additionally supported by a goose-neck brace, slightly splayed legs decorated with three-pieces aprons under the seat on both sides and the front with a graceful cusped end in the top center, "step-by-step" stretchers between the legs (a Bubugao 步步高 style symbolizing prosperity and promotion), in overall simple-and-elegant style, sturdy and well-balanced structure, made after the scholar's style of Ming furniture, good condition with signs of the age and use, some finish losses, scuffs, discolorations, minor wood splits and some old repairs
