This bowl is an impressive size at 18”.
The dragon and phoenix (longfeng) together are an ancient, powerful symbol of the Emperor and Empress, harmony, and a happy marriage.
They are surrounded by stylized clouds (yun), which are traditional Chinese auspicious patterns symbolizing good fortune and promotion.
The elaborate decoration and powerful symbolism—especially the dragon and phoenix and the traditional ruyi and wave borders—indicate it is a piece of Chinese Blue and White Porcelain made at the kilns of Jingdezhen in early 20th Century.
