Offering an exquisite English Art Nouveau picture frame by the esteemed Horton and Allday company, hallmarked in the silver on the lower left (pictured).
The thick glass (original to the frame) is beveled and measures about 5 3/8 high by 3 7/8 (that’s the size of the opening for the picture). There are minor scratches on the glass.
The frame measures nine inches high and is 5 7/8 across at the bottom.
Note that a small element of the silver has disappeared; the fabric underneath has been colored silver to minimize the impact of that. The frame was originally intended to stand on a table, but the prop on the back is missing. Insofar as the brass element to which it was attached is still there, the prop could be remade and installed.
A splendid example of "high style" Art Nouveau, that organic, sensuous art form from well over a hundred years ago! And just in time for this year's Valentine's Day!
