This small, wooden hibachi was used in … Read more This listing is for an antique, Japanese kotatsu stand from around the 1940’s.
This small, wooden hibachi was used in Japanese izakaya ( Japanese pubs).
A ceramic pot filled with hot coals, sitting on top of ash, was placed inside the kotatsu by opening the small door at the side.
Many hibachi were placed around the izakaya to keep the customers warm; the wooden cage protecting them from any accidents with the hot coals. See less
