Vintage; C. Late 1950s-60s, Hollywood Regency era, is this Venetian Italian wood carved, figurine in a gilt silver & gold leaf burnished finish, with a brick red underlay, as this eclectic, curiosity figurine or cupid form, is given it's prominence, in addition to beholding a carved grotto shell as an entry serving tray/platter or attached dish resonates We were tickled pink and ecstatic coming upon this, and have held for that special time, near Mother's Day, for those looking to gift someone an unusual accent piece, with conversation galore to abound by it's inclusion into any interior space domain. We would be remiss to include other wonderful details, such as the carved feathered, tiered skirted dressage, or costume this young male figure/ a la cherub or cupid is adorned in, including details to biceps with arm bands and calves. Also the character is standing onto a fluted gilt silver round, raised platform, as if to announce something, symbolically. of importance, "ta-da". The main base platform surround has a scalloped tiered carved details also in gilt gold and silver accordingly, with original yellow felted base bottom. The quality of this carved piece, beyond the obvious eccentric and eclectic, reminds one of a bygone era, the height of the 1940s-50s Design, brought into the 60's a' la Hollywood, and elsewhere, from Film sets, and backdrops, that envelope one to the heightened awareness of this, as well as the craftsmanship. The craftsmanship, and skills which were utilized in Europe, artisans of skilled trades, were and are synonymous to their specific crafts, honed for many generations, much like museum's are to the artworks, the preservation and continuums of this, is the specificity and historical reference, but along with generations of skilled schools of design, arts and crafts maker's, they are passed onto the next, generational family, or schools of design. Each skilled craft, is individualized, accorded the serious proprietor a level, an achieved production, with the specificity, that which is part and partial to being able to train, the next generation, and forbearer's of these business' given the artistry involved and evolved during the cyclical environment pf design in history, past, present and future, with a nod to the past as a platform.
A Belle Epoque eclectic and intrinsic of high style, and quintessentially ensconced within the Hollywood Regency era, with all the whimsy, and quality of craftsmanship allotted this piece.
This piece has been superbly well-maintained, and in excellent condition.
The Italian Florentine Gilt mirror, Dorato a Mano, listed in this storefront, came from the same estate, as was an Italian Side/Drinks table.
