A beautiful and unusually complete 25-piece Chinese famille rose porcelain tea and dessert service, dating to circa the 1970s and decorated with colorful auspicious motifs associated with longevity, prosperity and good fortune.
The service features a richly detailed palette of famille rose enamels accented with gilding. Floral decoration and traditional Chinese longevity motifs are arranged across the porcelain with particularly fine, crisp painting and vibrant color.
Although this style is sometimes broadly marketed as Rose Medallion, the decoration is more accurately described as famille rose with Mun Shou, or longevity, motifs, rather than traditional Rose Medallion with its characteristic figural court scenes and medallion reserves.
Each piece bears the Yang Cheng (“Goat City”) pictorial mark, depicting two goats flanking a vase. Yang Cheng is a traditional name for Guangzhou, historically known in the West as Canton. Comparable examples of this mark are associated with Chinese porcelain production of the period.
