The seat surface … Read more Afra & Tobia Scarpa "Monk" dining chairs for Molteni, leather and wood, Italy, 1974, set of four. The seat surface is made with two leather parts, shaped for comfortable sitting. Afra Bianchin (1937-2011) and Tobia Scarpa (1935) began their long collaboration in 1957. Starting from 1960, they collaborated with companies like Gavina, B&B Italia, and Cassina. Innovators and unconventional thinkers, they developed numerous projects discovering new ways of mixing different materials and shapes. Their pieces are exhibited in many museums worldwide, such as the MoMa in New York and the Musée du Louvre in Paris. All the signs and imperfections on the surface are natural leather features, enhancing the material's natural beauty. Refined, functional and comfortable, these chairs are in vintage condition. The wooden frames and legs show marks and signs of use. The leather shows signs of wear, as seen in photographs.
