About the Poster: Beginning in the 1950s and through the 1980s, the Polish School of Posters combined the aesthetics of painting with the succinctness and simple metaphor of the poster. It developed characteristics such as painterly gesture, linear quality, and vibrant colors, as well as a sense of individual personality, humor, and fantasy. It was in this way that the Polish poster was able to make the distinction between designer and artist less apparent.
About the Artist: Jan Młodożeniec was a Polish graphic designer. He worked in posters, drawing, book and publication design, and illustration. He studied from 1948 to 1955 at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Graphic Arts and Posters of Henryk Tomaszewski. He was a member of Alliance Graphique International.
About Projekt Magazine: "Projekt was published in five languages, including English, and its main focus was to promote Polish art and design abroad. Started by Roman Cieslewicz in 1956 and art-directed by Hubert Hilscher for 20 years, Projekt also featured leading arts talents from around the world. It became a champion of Modernist graphic design in both the East and West during the 1960s and 70s. In the early 1980s, when the authorities imposed martial law to try and suppress anti-communist activities, Projekt's editors announced their collective resignation." (projekt26.com)
