This Really is an Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Jug. It is Embossed with a Number 2 Confirming its Two Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Maker N. A. WHITE & SON UTICA NEW YORK. It is Rendered in a Classic American Jug Form with a Slightly Tapered Waist. NOTE That It has Very Interesting Divided 2 Color ( Sand & Greige ) Salt Glaze a Salt Glaze Exterior that Would Have Occurred Unintended in the Kiln Firing Process Giving it a Unique Look. The Front of the Jug is Decorated with a Very Large and Exceptionally Nice Deep Cobalt Blue Color Stylized Flower Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc.
It is in Very Nice Overall Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has Few Chips at the Top - Spout and 1 Chip on the Bottom Rim Perimeter.. It Also has a Surface Patch Looking Spot on the Right Side Mid Section and a Few Very Minor Surface Only Glaze Imperfections All of which Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It has No Cracks & No Repairs. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired..
