Beautiful large, vintage Murano hand blown Sommerso red and blue / purple “Alexandrite” Italian art glass mom seal and pup … Read more Beautiful large, vintage Murano hand blown Sommerso red and blue / purple “Alexandrite” Italian art glass mom seal and pup sculpture. Documented to the Seguso Vetri d'Arte company, recently found on their illustrated archives, item number 14752 (see last photo). I had previously attributed it to Antonio da Ros for Cenedese, because of the technique, but glad to finally have the correct documentation for it. It is created with Neodymium glass, which changes color from daylight to indoor light. Under daylight it has a blue / purple tint (changes too on amount of light), and turns an aqua green under florescent lights. The baby pup seal also turns colors, to a yellow green towards the back (see photos). The head of the mother seal glows under a black light, and her body turns a pinkish orange. Very hard to photograph, but you can see it on her fin, in the black light photo (last photo). Would make a great display piece on any console table or credenza. Mid-century era. Very rare piece! Measures: 11" long x 5 5/8" wide x 4 1/2" tall.
