The original was an oil on canvas. The bird is a bullfinch. This piece is priced as a print, however it may be a lithograph or something else. I’m not able to find any telltale signs of a print. The frame is grandiose and heavy.

This sentimental image of two squirrels sitting on a tree branch eating acorns with a bird looking on, is an example of a light-hearted “parlor” print created by Currier & Ives. The rich colors and circular composition romanticize the rodent which was frequently hunted in the nineteenth century.
