The elephant's pink head, expressive blue floral eyes, oversized green leaf ears, and gracefully curved trunk contrast with a richly textured orange body and sculptural vegetable-form legs.

Beautifully modeled and finished in vibrant polychrome glazes, this unusual ceramic sculpture reflects the playful side of Italian decorative arts. Its detailed surfaces, lively colors, and three-dimensional botanical forms make it an appealing accent for a collected interior.

JUNE'S THOUGHTS
I particularly enjoy the unexpected combination of humor and craftsmanship in this elephant. It would be delightful on a library table, a painted chest, or among more formal antiques, where its unusual character becomes part of the conversation

COLLECTOR'S NOTE
The sculpture recalls the imaginative compositions of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the 16th-century Italian painter celebrated for creating figures from fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other natural forms. Here, that inventive tradition takes three-dimensional form in a wonderfully expressive example of Italian majolica.
