The vase was created, engraved, and sold as a souvenir of the 1933-1934 Century of Progress World's Fair in Chicago. The vase is inscribed/engraved "Chicago / 1933" on one side in hand-written script. The surface finish consists of a mottled glaze of soft matte green and faun (reddish-tan) called "Art Vellum," a decor introduced by Brush McCoy Pottery in 1923. The vessel is the company's form 716 with two distinctive ear-shaped handles on opposite sides of the body. Although created during the Art Deco period, this handsome and sturdy vase would make an ideal accent for an Arts and Crafts or an Art Nouveau interior.
