The style of case is "picture" or "picture frame clock. In England, Morez clocks are called "Vineyard clocks". The idiosyncrasy that marks Comtoise clocks is to repeat the hour strike a couple of minutes after the hour. This clock was restored in 2008 and keeps time perfectly! The clockmaker, Mark D. Meadows in Cassville, Missouri, was so impressed that he submitted an article to the Clockmakers Newsletter in 2008. The 10 pages he wrote about this repair are included in the newsletter which will be included with the clock. The clock was rescued from a fire outside of Paris in 1987. The man who took it used it to hide cash and make a quick exit of France. He was apprehended by authorities in 1989 for crimes against the state (France). My mother dated him briefly. He gave it to my mother who then gave it to me as she didn't want to be reminded of the scoundrel.
