We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!
This week we are joined by design extraordinaire, Georgia Tapert Howe. A true design serial-entrepreneur, Georgia began her career under the tutelage of NYC design greats David Easton and Mica Ertegun before opening her own home boutique, Georgia Tapert Living, in downtown Manhattan. Just a year later, she opened Carolina George, a furniture, fabric and interior design studio before hopping coasts to Los Angeles where she now runs her full-service interiors firm, aptly named, Georgia Tapert Howe. An east coaster at heart, Georgia’s style brings a fresh, worldly perspective to traditional design. This modern elegance earned her a spot on ELLE Decor’s Rising Stars list. Lucky for us, Georgia is sharing some of her impeccable taste with us by revealing her fave Chairish picks and answering our most pressing questions一not to mention making us mega jealous of shopping trips to Paris (that are part of her job)!
Most memorable career moment you’ve had so far?
Probably getting the cover of ELLE Decor in March of 2018. Also, the first time I took clients on a shopping trip to Paris was pretty great.
Do you collect anything?
I guess you could say I collect vases. I can’t pass up a beautiful vase, especially if it’s old.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
I honestly don’t know. But when I had a shop I used to say my autobiography would be called Birds in a Basket: The Diary of a Shopkeeper. I had these papier-mâché birds that I originally bought for a window display and people went nuts for them. So I finally just put out a large basket and threw the birds in there for people to buy. Forget out about all the stuff I schlepped back from Europe or India一 people just wanted these damn birds! I think I sold over 2,500 of them by the time I closed my store!
What’s a current trend you hope doesn’t exist in 100 years?
I think I’ve seen enough terrazzo in the last 3 years to last me a lifetime.
