    About

    Shop Banner

Guided by her appreciation for classical forms and love of once-in-a-lifetime pieces, Barbara Israel has offered the finest examples of garden ornament for over 30 years. Her inventory pays homage not only to historic European models but also to American creativity and design.

Barbara is the sole antique garden ornament dealer at the much-lauded East Side House Winter Antiques Show. Her company also exhibits at the Philadelphia Antiques and Art Show, the New York Botanical Garden Antique Garden Furniture Fair and the Delaware Antiques Show in Wilmington.

Barbara’s book, Antique Garden Ornament: Two Centuries of American Taste, was published in 1999 by Harry N. Abrams and is still considered the most complete reference in the field. In 2012 she came out with A Guide to Buying Antique Garden Ornament to help prospective buyers in their quest to learn and understand what’s desirable versus what’s objectionable in a garden antique.

Barbara has served as consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution on their collections of 19th-century cast iron. Although her heart is in the historic pieces Barbara has recently expanded her offerings to include modernist examples for the contemporary garden.
