The Topalian name is highly respected in the design trade as a source of fine antique and semi-antique oriental rugs and carpets. Founded by Malcolm F. Topalian in 1933 and expanded by him over more than five decades, the business focuses exclusively on one- of-a-kind decorative and collectible pieces. Malcolm’s discerning eye and third- generation position in the field enabled him to amass one of the largest and most wide- ranging collections in the New York metropolitan area market.

His son Mark joined the business in 1982. Mark graduated from Boston University with a business administration degree and attended the New York School of Interior Design. This background has enabled him to take over the leadership of the firm and to keep abreast of the changing design trends and aesthetics of the market.

Mark has appeared as an appraiser on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow. He is a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America, and has worked with leading institutions, insurance companies, and private clients in preparing estate, damage, donation, insurance and equitable distribution appraisals. Early in 2008, M. Topalian Inc. joined the prestigious Art and Antique Dealers League of America, the oldest principal antiques and fine arts organization in America.

A primary goal of M. Topalian Inc., is to make the process of purchasing an oriental rug or carpet a pleasurable experience. A visit to our showroom in the New York metropolitan area provides the opportunity to examine and purchase some of the best woven examples of art available. We also offer cleaning, restoration, and conservation services to our clients.

A limited selection of rugs from our extensive inventory appears here. If you have a specific request for a rug or carpet, kindly call or e-mail us with your preferences and specifications — we will be happy to send you photographs or digital images of additional pieces to consider. We look forward to working with you in the future.
