Grace Diehl is a full-time artist based in Southern California who works primarily in oils. She finds the medium perfectly suited to expressing her passion for painting, each brushstroke carrying both intention and emotion. “An idea is born in my mind and heart, then translated into a visual language of mood and color harmony. I pay particular attention to the study of light, as well as to the balance of themes and composition. Shape, value, and unity are also essential in creating a meaningful dialogue with my viewers.”
Rather than simply copying what she sees, Grace approaches each subject as a starting point—an opportunity to infuse harmony and creativity into her work.
Her early satisfaction came from painting still life, particularly within the surreal genre. Since moving to the West Coast, however, plein air painting has become central to her artistic practice. Immersed in nature, she finds that nothing compares to experiencing the landscape firsthand. Grace is an active member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, participating regularly in its events and competitions.
