The firm of Eric J. Smith Architect is best known for very high-end, custom residential architecture that can be classically styled or contemporary. More importantly, the staff, led by Eric Smith, is focused on strong design, meticulous presentation, constant and courteous communication, highly detailed plans and drawings, excellent craftsmanship and the highest quality of construction. Homes designed by the office of Eric J. Smith often look very as though they've been in place for many years, but they always incorporate front-end technology and ultra-modern conveniences.

The office works collaboratively with other professionals including interior designers, landscape designers, engineers, contractors and a wide range of special consultants like geotechnical, technology, security and acoustical advisors so that services and amenities are seamlessly integrated into finished rooms and spaces. With sharp focus and extraordinary commitment, it is not surprising that the work results in homes of quiet distinction.

The portfolio is varied and wide-ranging: it includes a renovated 19th-century Greenwich Village brick building that became a pied a terre to sophisticated collectors of modern art; a stately second home on Lake Michigan; a new farmhouse and outbuildings on a large property in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont; a riverfront renovation and expansion of a 1920's-era house in Jacksonville, Florida; luxurious 4-season vacation homes in Vail; the restoration of an 1890's Upper East Side townhouse for a family with four young sons; Lakeshore Drive high-rise apartments in Chicago and an extensively rebuilt and reorganized woodframe home on Shelter Island, among other exciting projects.
