Chinese lacquer four sided fengweizun, a four sided vase in a red lacquered exterior, interior and base, with four of … Read more Chinese lacquer four sided fengweizun, a four sided vase in a red lacquered exterior, interior and base, with four of the Eight Buddhist Immortals floating on clouds above ocean waves, finely painted in colored lacquers and bracketed by paired fenghuangs above, and leafy floral vines below. The four sides of the neck are decorated with gold Shou character medallions amid leafy floral vines with the Buddhist Endless knot symbol below at the flange. The foot of the vase is banded by stylized dragons with a smaller meander border below. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu stand, decorated on four sides with paired Fu Bats and lucky coins, is included. A black, four character, Shen De Tang Zhi, Daoguang mark is finely carved to the base. Circa late 19th century, no later than early 20th.

Shen De Tang Zhi: Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue - located in the Old Summer Palace in the Imperial Gardens, originally built by the Kangxi emperor and expanded by the Yongzheng and Qianlong emperors during the 18th century. Used as a residence by the Daoguang emperor, who died there, and destroyed by European troops in 1860 during the Second Opium War. See less
