It is one of “8 Etudes de Nu” that came from a spiral bound French book on the history and development of elastic for use with lingerie, published in 1954. Leading 20th c French illustrators each did a study of a nude which then had a tissue paper overlay showcasing the “new” elastic product for the undergarment. In this image a girdle was the overlay. The lithograph itself is a watercolor by André Dignimont (1891-1965) who was a prolific artist and illustrator who worked in Paris and is well known for his illustrations of women, café life and the Parisian culture. He created his own stylistic genre with watercolors for which he became well-known. He exhibited in numerous Paris Salons in the early 20th c and his works are now collectible. This is a sweet and innocent image done in pastel colors and features delicate details in its accessories; there is a beautiful quality to Dignimont’s work. The signed lithograph measures 9 ¼ x 13¼ inches. It comes custom matted in a 16 x 20 inch mat that works with a standard size frame. In addition, the tissue paper overlay will be included to provide the provenance for the work. (Please allow time for custom matting.)
