Meissen quite rare figurine group: the so-said german bacchus excellently painted & modelled (the details are stunningly sculptured = finest modelling) design: -- johann carl schoenheit (1730-1805) schoenheit has been active at meissen manufactory since year 1745 / as from 1765 the sculptor designed own models. He was assistant of kaendler in earlier period / schoenheit was colleague, too, of acier in later period. He retired in 1794. - model d 13 created in year 1770. Made: circa 1880 meissen blue sword mark with pommels on hilts (glazed bottom) model number d 13 / former's number 42 first quality specification: this figurine group is a very interesting interpretation of ancient legend deriving from greek mythology, concerning the greek god of wine - bacchus: a male figurine has taken place on a wine barrel, holding up a glass of red wine as well as seizing a bottle - the man seems to have great pleasure with his carousing. Additionally, the merry reveler is accompanied by a boyish satyr playing trumpet - it hides behind man's back. A little girl kneels in front of wine barrel, turning the spigot in order to put wine into a bottle. A little boy is busy with taking notes into a book / he has shouldered a small wine jug. - this figurines' group is called 'german bacchus' since the merry reveler here isn't a figurine of ancient times but a rococo man wearing a wig and clad in rococo garments / the children accompanying him are clad in rococo style, too. The figurines are attached to elliptic base edged by rocaille ornaments. Measures: height 21.0 cm (= 8.26 inches) width of base 14.0 cm (= 5.51 inches) total depth 11.5 cm (= 4.52 inches) bibliography: sabine & thomas bergmann, meissener figuren / meissen figures, bergmann (erlangen, germany) 2014, catalogue number 14 on page 28.
