This table is … Read more C.1988; A wonderfully, iconic and identifiable Collection by Donghia Furniture, introduced in the 1980's called, "Essence Collection." This table is the Essence Occasional/Side Table. A John Hutton Design Design for Donghia Furniture. Many of the earliest collections were under his Design guise, and within the era of its heyday, and explosion of growth within the Interior Design Industry. John Hutton incorporated traditional forms onto, transitional and more contemporary styles of furniture within our period. The collection comprised of Cocktail Coffee Tables, Occasional and Side/End or Drink/Occasional tables either; in differing heights and shape, from square, rectangular, Elliptical/Oval-Shaped, to Round Shaped, as well as plant stand/sculpture height. This particular table when acquired, is an Essence Occasional Table height at 22"H, square at 16"W x D. It has been NEWLY RESTORED and PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED in one of the "original," finishes this collection came in; a charcoal black, satin lacquer finish, which offsets the brushed satin nickel details quite nicely, simply with a, "j'en e sequoia," of elegant panache, with numerous and multiple capabilities within any interior domain. Also one could get the sabots and perimeter top surround edge top, either in brushed brass or brushed nickel satin finish. There is ALSO a NEW inset glass top piece which goes with this piece, BUT for the sake of reflection we did not photograph it together, within the top. Maker's marking engraved to the underneath frame, inset as image indicates. ALSO underneath the top which is removable for refinishing is the date of the frame, indicating 88, on elf the images herein.

As an ex-Donghia Employee, I can confirm the legitimacy of this piece. A perfect side/occasional table, which can simply be moved to and fro, upon social gatherings and the likes, or utilized near that favorite chair/reading nook area, etc. Perfect for drinks, or a cigar table, tea table.

This particular table was made in C.1988, as many of the frames underneath the hardware, otherwise have an engrave or carved out year date,s within the frames, or burnished and engraved maker's markings to denote the Maker underneath the table.

The original custom options were glass or leather. These also had custom inset leather tops, if one didn't want the lacquer and glass, much like the Mid-Century pieces of Paul McCobb pieces, which had tables and nightstands with leather tops, a nod to a different era, but more contemporary, yet the form and function abide as the uppermost quotient.
