Pair of splendid figurine groups manufactory: meissen germany dating: made circa 1850 material: white porcelain, glossy finish technique: handmade porcelain, finest painting designer: johann joachim kändler (1706-1775) was chief sculptor at the meissen manufactory from 1742-1775. He is the most famous modeller meissen manufactory ever had and created famous series such as shepherd figurines, comedian's children, gardener children (with acier), paris town criers (with reinicke and meyer), gallant figurines, etc. Kaendler designed these seasons allegories groups together with friedrich elias meyer in 1749. Specifications: allegory - 'spring & winter' a female and a male putto represent the seasons spring and winter. The spring girl sits elevated on a rock base with a basket full of flowers and some blossoms in her hands. Below her is the winter boy in a fur-trimmed robe and cap, warming his hands by a blazing fire. The group is based on a rounded rock base with rocaille ornaments. Allegory - 'summer & autumn' the autumn putto leans back on a rock and nibbles grapes from a vine. The summer girl is sitting at his feet, holding out her right hand. To the left of the female putto are ears of corn, a reference to the grain harvest in the summer months. Rounded rock base with rocaille decoration. Size: height 'spring & winter' 9.84 inches height 'summer & autumn' 9.84 inches marks: meissen crossed sword marks with pommels on hilts / first quality 'spring & winter': model nr. 1222 former's nr. 40 painter's nr. 69 'summer & autumn': model nr. 1236 painter's nr. 67 bibliography: thomas & sabine bergmann, meissen figures / erlangen (germany) 2017, model numbers 1 - 3000, catalogue numbers 1897 + 1898 on page 397. Condition: very good. This piece has an attribution mark,
