Japanese woodblock triptych from the Meiji period.
"Feast at the Gakushuin (Tokyo Kazoku Gakko; Kakushuin Enkai no Zu)", a vibrant scene depicting a banquet for the opening of the Gakushuin, which was designated as the school for the aristocrats in Tokyo by Toyohara Chikanobu (Japanese, 1838-1912).
Attended by the Emperor and Empress Meiji, the school was opened in 1877.
Nishiki-e, ink and color on vertical ôban.
Publisher Matsushita Heibei, signed Chikanobu hitsu.
Museum placard on verso.
