Gorgeous 20th Century Japanese lacquered Sage Jubako picnic set, measures 12" tall x 13.5" x 9".
Consists of an open rectangular frame with a handle on top, the top and sides are decorated with a gold flowering wheat design on a brick red background. The picnic set consists of jubako (tiered stacking boxes, 4 in hexagonal shape) and a lidded box fitted for two pewter tokkuri (sake bottles), this fitted box is decorated with sakura (cherry blossoms).
Very good condition, light separation at corners of stacking boxes, minor crack on the right side of rectangular frame, light scratching and chipping of lacquer in a few places which is consistent with a age and use as a functional piece.
