A photo is worth a thousand words. What do you suppose Sophia Loren is thinking? These lovely ladies were photographed dining at Romanoff's (a popular restaurant in the 1940s and 1950s). Photo taken on April 12, 1957 by Joe Shere.

(1917 - 2008)
Joe Shere was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He worked as darkroom printer and apprentice photographer. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and became the Chief of Photo Division. In 1936 his brother, Sam Shere, shot the prize winning Hindenburg disaster photograph. After the war he went to Hollywood and was a photographer for various publications. Joe shot the famous image of Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren.
